How to “Like” a Song and Appreciate Music Better

disc jockey

1. Understand What the Song is Trying to Convey. If you find it hard to understand the meaning of a particular song, listen to it repeatedly to further appreciate it. Maybe you will not like a song the first time you hear it, but when you listen to it repeatedly, you will be surprised because you might really enjoy it. Many songs have hidden messages that the artist wants you to find.
“Life can't be all bad when for ten dollars you can buy all the Beethoven sonatas and listen to them for ten years.” --William F. Buckley, Jr.

2. Be Open-Minded. Don't be afraid to listen to any music genre. Everyone’s music taste differs from each other. What sounds good to you may not sound good to other person. It doesn’t necessarily mean that when one of your friends doesn’t like a particular singer, you will unlike that singer, too.

"Take a music bath once or twice a week for a few seasons. You will find it is to the soul what a water bath is to the body."  --Oliver Wendell Holmes

3. Don't dismiss the Oldies. Some of the great songs from the past also sounds good. In fact, some of the songs from the past seems like they’re not getting old either, the all time favorite, like the songs of “The Beatles”.

“We listen to great music and know that all our joys and sorrows are part of something beyond our comprehension - and so indefinitely valuable.” --Jesse O'Neill

The Truth about Maroon 5 and Wiz Khalifa’s “Payphone”

maroon 5 & wiz khalifa image
Maroon 5 & Wiz Khalifa’s “Payphone” sold 493,000 digital downloads in its first week! I admit, this song is really amazing. Its lyrics and melody were left playing in my head like LSS (Last Song Syndrome), because the first time I’ve seen its official music video, I got hooked. I’m sure that you too, do you?

This pop song is about a man that has build his dreams with someone he love, but then, that someone leave him and wasted the time and the love he gave. That girl has easily forgotten all of the memories and special moments that they have shared. Then, though it wasn’t his fault, the man is calling at the “Payphone” and still asks for a second chance but the girl thinks it is already too late.

I can easily relate to this song because just like the writer of the song, I’m also being sicked whenever I hear love songs that remind me of someone so dear to me that has gone or moved away.  If I will be that girl, I will never do that to the guy that loves me so much, and I will never let him go. (Too bad, he fell in love with that girl, and not with me.)

Good news to the people that really appreciated this song, because this song was a success, reaching number two on the Billboard Hot 100chart, and on the ARIA Charts, and topped the Canadian Hot 100, UK Singles Chart and Italian Singles Chart. I’m so glad that finally, in their fourth album "Overexposed", that was released worldwide last June 26th, 2012, it is the album's lead single.

I can’t wait to see what would be their next single.

Why I Am Passionate About Music?

image about life and music

The word “passion” is about enthusiasm, a desire, eager interest, or intense feeling for something. Every one of us has a passion. What are you passionate about?

If you’ll ask me what I am passionate about, well then, I’m passionate in reading (especially the stories written by HYSTG), going to different beautiful places, watching Koreanovelas (like Dream High), and most of all, l am passionate in listening to music.

Why I am passionate about music? Because music makes me feel relaxed and stress free. When I’m alone with nobody to talk to, I listen to music. I love listening to the songs with beautiful and meaningful lyrics, though sometimes, it makes me feel sad when I hear the songs that remind me of something or someone. My fave singers are: Miley Cyrus, Charice Pempengco, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Luther Vandross, and most of all, Avril Lavigne. And my fave bands are: Parokya ni Edgar, One Direction, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, the Script, and Fm Static and so much more (they are too many to mention. XDD).

An animated image about music
They said that music makes our brain works better, and if you can’t explain or express your feeling, all you have to do is find a song with the perfect lyrics that will speak for you. They also said that “Music is a universal language”, so even if we speak different languages, I believe that we can all be united through music.

And that’s the reason why I am passionate about music…
So, what are you passionate about?
